many films have taken advantage of rio de janeiro's striking scenery and unique atmosphere with a number of well-known action, comedy, romantic, and suspense movies prominently featuring the famous brazilian city - just like many artists before them, great filmmakers, inspired by rio's beauty and complexity,  felt the appeal of seductive nature and fascinating culture.

rio de janeiro made its debut on the silver screen back in 1933, when the famous couple fred astaire and ginger rogers appeared starred for the first time together in the romantic musical comedy flying down to rio - a fun movie that brought great luck to everyone involved.

not much later, in 1946, rio was stage and inspiration for alfred hitchcock's first great romance on screen, notorious, and as recently as 2014 the set for the acclaimed 'rio, eu te amo', a portrait of the emotional relationships between cariocas and their city - following, are some of the most renowned examples of cinema shot in ever-photogenic rio.
