the first radio transmission in brazil happened in september 7th, 1922, when westinghouse electric with the help of the brazilian telephone company installed a 500 w station on top of the christ the redeemer. back then publicity was illegal in the country, so there were no ads being aired on the radio, only opera, concerts and lectures. on the 30's however, the programs went from being cultural and educational to being more fun and popular with fixed schedules - with the growth of industry and trade, the number of ads increased and the radio turned into a lucrative business. | one day in rio | |||
