Published by Papel e Tinta in 2015, the book Symphony of Rio de Janeiro - 60 years of musical history in the city (Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro - 60 anos de história musical da cidade), by João Máximo spans 60 years of carioca musical history, containing an array of beautiful and exuberant photos from the pre-bossa nova era to the present day - Amongst these, are the artists themselves captured in the bars, clubs and settings that they adored all around the city. João Máximo begins his musical tale in 1954, when Tom Jobim and Billy Blanco came together to form the Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro (Symphony of Rio de Janeiro) - Tucked amidst the pages of the book is an original CD recording of the Sinfonia from 1954 and again in 1960. The tracks contain a star cast of MPB artists, conducted by Radames Gnattali. Maximo goes on to chart six decades of composition, divided into chapters that have the same titles as tracks on the CD, each accompanied by beautiful images of the city, passing through bars, clubs, beaches and mountains. | one day in rio | |||
