set in the favela of the same name, the film chronicles the daily life of the favela community just a year after the installation of the unidade de polícia pacificadora, the police pacification unit. the comunidade is located in the trendy santa teresa neighborhood, yet bares little resemblance to the iconic sights within the area. aiming to offer an objective view of the situation, the documentary follows both the residents of the communities, adapting to their new routine, and the police, responsible for keeping the peace in the favela. written and directed by maria augusta ramos, the film is the third installment of the filmmakers trilogy, which also includes justiça (2004) and juízo (2007), all tackling the theme of law and citizen responsibility throughout the city. |
