as of the
1950's, the word
'favela' became an official term extended to the use by the
brazilian census.
In the second half
of the 20th Century, between
1950 and 1960, populations living in the
central zone of the city continued to reduce as a result of
increased commerce and housing regulations.
The suburbs and
peripheries were consecrated as the less expensive part of town
to live while
the
South Zone enshrined itself as the domain of the affluent.
