at a glance

this started the process of recognition of favelas as entrepreneurial entities, extending the urbanization plans to communities in needs, and starting a process of integration in the formal metropolis.

In Rio, the programs developed by the Secretaria Municipal de Desenvolvimento Social - SMDS, supplied communities in need with construction materials, skilled labor, and general assistance - additionally, the program hired local residents and paid them to wok and build local structures and develop local urbanization projects.

this was called the Projeto de Urbanização Comunitária / Mutirão Remunerado (paid-effort Community Urbanization Project).   arrow-back      arrow-forward
