IDACO embraces campaigns in rural and urban areas aimed at ensuring food security and full citizenship rights. Important campaigns that the institution has recently participated in include A Transgenic-Free Brazil, End of Child Labour and the Rights of Rural Women.

Since 1985, it has also had a special wing devoted to agrarian reform, working to strengthen the rights of local farmers and producers and improve the standards of agricultural production.

In the city of Rio de Janeiro, its work is primarily in Santa Marta favela, although many of its projects are spread around the wider state.
