criança esperança (children hope) is an extremely successful campaign started in 1986 by the globo network in association with unicef (united nations international children emergency fund) aimed at helping children in need across brazil, and that has a strong presence in rio's favelas. 

currently a tv show, the program unites journalists, stars, and celebrities in publicly addressing children's needs.
