among the most visible ngo's in rio is rio como vamos (rio how we are doing), is a movement created in 2007 by a group of cariocas who wanted to improve the quality of life in the city.

rio como vamos promotes citizen's involvement in determining what problems should be addressed and how, and publishes 'quality indicators' pertaining to health, education, safety, transport, employment, and environment for many regions of rio.

in partnership with the research  group ibope, rio como vamosalso publishes reports on how residents perceive the city, therefore offering another dimension to the statistics of the indicators.
