at the edge of the tijuca
lagoon,
next to the joatinga canal, there's a small
archipelago mostly comprised of artificial islands.
these islets were created with
the sediments resulting from the excavations to improve the
drainage of the lagoon's waters.
some of the
islands are
used as habitation areas, like the largest of the group,
ilha
gigóia, and
ilha
primeira, located in the northern edge, just a few
meters from the itanhangá golf club.
