at a glance

The beaches of Ilha do Governador are a pleasing and serene contrast to the more popular and well known shores of Rio - Characterized for the most part by their isolation and quaint beauty, they offer visitors and locals landscapes and experiences of unique authenticity.

The most famous amongst the beaches on the island are praia da bica (bica beach), which is situated in the neighborhood of jardim guanabara, and praia de guanabara, also called praia da freguesia, located in freguesia.

These are some of the larger and more popular amongst the sandy stretches and their local scenery attracts a vast array of visitors, fishermen and athletes, further to a variety of aquatic animals.

The true jewels of this coastline are arguably however, the smaller and more isolated areas - The beach praia das pitangueiras is lined by magnificent and exotic trees, which hang over the thin stretch of golden shoreline, creating a unique and inspiring panorama.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
