the addition of the new rail station at the praça das nações added to bonsucesso's growth. by 1996, the old praça das nações was raised for the new projeto rio cidade (rio city project).

a landmark of note is the chafariz e o monumento aos expedicionários da segunda guerra mundial (fountain monument to the world war ii expeditionary forces). the cast iron fountain was created for the national exhibition of 1908. a female figure at the top of the fountain holds a globe which illuminates the nearby square.
