at a glance

Presented by the  Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, the study Genealogia de uma comunidade: a trama da trança (Community genealogy - the tram of the braid) by Sonia Bahia e Regina Andrade discusses the succession and transmission of culture in the Mangueira Community, with the aim of understanding the way that relations in this regard between the majority of citizens are structured.

The unit The Cultural Center Cartola, was analyzed, examining its link with those responsible for the Scholl of Samba, the First Mangueira Station. The study identifies two schools which have inherited the Samba project and their relationship to one another.

It finishes by identifying the genealogy of succession of two seminal women in this field - D. Neuma and D. Zica, recognizing how their heiresses have continued these matriarch's actions, and pointing towards a fraternal rivalry between them. This rivalry structures their relations in a locked structure, which makes similar helical movements to those made by human genetic DNA. arrow-back      arrow-forward
