the longest street in rio comprido was known as rua da bela vista, or the street with a beautiful view, where the home of marechal francisco cabral da silva was located. he was the baron of itapagipe and the street was later renamed after him folllowing his death. one of the marking points on this street was the mansion of the conde de bonfim, which was demolished in the twentieth century to make way for the construction of a hospital.

the neighborhood slowly grew and grew until by 1967, the reboucas tunnel was built at the end of avenida paulo frontin-- granting easy access between the north and south zones of the neighborhood.
