at a glance

The forest is the product of a period of little more than two decades of militant environmental activism in the area of political ecology. We were led by a desire to participate in something new - an ecological policy centered around a historical process of construction. In 1986, we were fascinated by the possibility of collaborating in the creation of a Green Party. In the same year, the fight for individual rights showed us that 'it is worthwhile to dream'.

The peak of the fires in the Amazon Forest and the leader Chico Mendez's battle made us increasingly eager to contribute in the fight against natural destruction, in the face of a predatory and exclusive economic system. Soon, we would incorporate into our program the universal belief at the heart of the environmental movement: 'Think globally and act locally'. With this as our premise, we already had something close to home to set our care and devotion towards: Tijuca Forest. arrow-back      arrow-forward
