It is also the location for the operation of the Agenda Social Rio, which, since 1999, has acted as a forum of discussion amongst residents of the neighborhoods and favelas, government and community organizations, public and private institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), with the objective of contributing to the creation of a more egalitarian and democratic society. With this in mind, the researchers involved in the project worked to reconstruct the history of these neighborhoods and favelas, in order to rescue the collective memory of the population and examine various moments and modes of relation between residents in these two types of urban space, whose co-existence is becoming increasingly more problematic in the city of Rio de Janeiro - Throughout the study they consider favelas to be integral parts of these neighborhoods. Presented by the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, the study A importância da floresta da tijuca na cidade do Rio de Janeiro - The importance of Tijuca Forest to the city of Rio de Janeiro, by Eduardo Coelho de Lima examines the importance of Tijuca Forest to the city of Rio de Janeiro, both of which are equally loved by the author. |
