This paper aims to analyze the context in which urban operations have been conducted, encouraging reflection on the loss or devaluation of a defined 'suburban' identity and the possible construction of other identities. How changes in the urban landscape can alter 'suburban identity' is considered, as a topic of historical significance at present in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
