at a glance

The exterior of the building is majestic and imposing, with a broad staircase, as well as four marble statues representing Faith, Hope, Charity and Religion.

the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da glória can be contacted via email on this link, via phone at 21 2225.0735, or via the church's official website here.

the church of our lady of glory became one of the most impressive examples of 19th century architecture in rio de janeiro, so much so that  the name of the square was changed to honor the impressive building.

yet, the glory square would see its official name changed again in 1869, this time to duque de caxias, honoring Luís Alves de Lima e Silva a military officer called duque de caixa - for a time the square even had a statue, but it was transferred to other location a few years later.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
