the guaraná plant, and its fruit, have been used by native amazon tribes for hundreds of years, with the sateré-mawé tribe considering themsleves the sons of guaraná - the origin of name is wara'ná which comes from the tongue tupi-guarani, which was a language used to create to communicate with both the tupi and guarani people, who are also native to the amazon.
