correspondence between Indonesia and Brazil has been occurring since 1953, but in more recent times the countries have begun to communicate in more depth - in 2008 both nations received presidential visits from one another and a strategic partnership agreement was signed, marking the first connection of the kind between Brazil and south east Asia.

in 2009 the 'action plan of strategic partnership' outlined bilateral correspondence on the areas of defense, social inclusion, science and technology - many joint committees foster communication between high level politicians in Brazil and Indonesia and include the 'agricultural advisory committee' and the 'working group on trade and investment'.
