the rio dos macacos (monkey
river), which gets its name from the abundance of native
wildlife that lives in the surrounding
tijuca forest -
particularly the many small monkey species that are typical for
the region.
it is located inside the
tijuca national park, flowing through the neighborhood of
jardim botânico behind the pedra d'agua mountain. it is home to
a number of small waterfalls, the most well know of which is the
cacheiro dos primatas.
