the cachoeira dos primatas is located inside the jardim botânico neighborhood of rio de janeiro's zona sul (south zone). besides the central location and easy access to this area, the abundance of local wildlifa and beutiful flora surrounding it, make this one of the most popular bathing spots in the city.

the easiest way to access the trail to the fall is by car, but public transport is also avaialable, and there is a parking area in rua sara vilela from where to start the 30min walk, which is not particularly strenuous, even for those with average physical fitness.

there are actually two falls along this trail, of which the first one, with its large plunge pool, offers fantastic bathing oppertunities, while the second is located at over 200 meters altitude and offers stunning views of the surrounds, including the lagoa rodrigo de freitas.
