This delightful waterfall is commonly known by two names cachoeira do pai antônio, or cachoeira das almas, because it is fed by the rio das almas (river of souls). the history behind its name says that during the 19th century slaves would practice their sacred rituals and purify their soul in this same spot insode the tijuca forest.

while there are a number of options, the easiest access to the 4m high fall is via a path that begins behind the hotel bar and restaurant 'floresta da tijuca' located at rua boa vista 12 in the neighborhood of alto da boa vista. the leisurely walk only takes about 10 minutes and can be masteres by children.

another more challenging option is the 4 hour round trip through the tijuca national park called circuito das almas, which leads past numerous waterfalls and attractions. a map can be picked up from the visitor centre at the entrance of the park, and togteher with the clear signage this trail is relatively easy no navigate, as well as offering a unique inside into the local flora and fauna - an incredible experience to be remembered for a lifetime.
