the neighborhood was a rural area from its foundation up to the 1960's, with green preserved areas, dirt roads and small houses. but when the international airport of galeão, antónio carlos jobim was planned, the neighborhood had to disappear in the name of progress. following the expansion of the airport and the vanishing of the neighborhood of itacolomi, the beach was transformed to the point that all that is left nowadays is a big lot next to the bay, covered in bushes.
