praia da bandeira is
also the name given to a
neighborhood in the
northern zone
of rio de janeiro, located on
ilha do governador.
a fine beach can be found on the east side
of the district, identifiable by a narrow strip of dark sand
flanked by a stone wall.
at the edge of the beach, in the 1920's a
small fortification was built around an old cannon that was
still there - and named 'ponta do tiro', loosely translatable as
'tip from where to shoot'.
