on sunday and on holidays, the outer part of avenida atlântica, the avenue running parallel to the beach, is closed to traffic and becomes a car-free zone where bicycles, paddle cars, and quadricycles can be rented and taken for a leisurely ride alongside the beach. 

sunday night is also the most lively night of the week on copacabana beach, animated buy many small events along the restaurants that dot the promenade - on this night, in addition to the hundreds of people practicing sport such as volleyball, beach soccer, jogging, and slack line, many kiosks set up live musical entertainment.

copacabana beach is home to three famous landmarks, the copacabana fort, the copacabana palace, and the beautiful black-and-white promenade itself, called 'calçadão' (big sidewalk).
