Created in 2009, Comédia Carioca is a regular event which takes place in gávea - Twenty of the biggest comedy names in the city make up the cast, and each week four of them put on musical and interactive comedy shows which are met with raucous laughter from their audiences.

Stand-up comedy sets can be found in other venues around the city, such as Teatro Odylo Costa, which hosts line-ups of big and upcoming names from all around the country.

Other theatres, such as Teatro Café Pequeno and Teatro Leblon put on a variety of shows and cabaret performances throughout the week in a more intimate setting, often interweaving music and dance - Laughing at a Rio comedy show is a wonderful way to experience and appreciate the uniquely cheeky and expressive Carioca outlook.
