this documentary is the second film directed by ana magalhães about affonso eduardo reidy's work - the first, called nostalgia for the future, was produced in 2005. when asked about the distinction between her original documentary and reidy, a construcão da utopia, she states that the more recent is less informative and more reflective than the former.

one of her goals in making the documentary is to redeem from anonymity the great work of reidy, which she felt had been somewhat overlooked.

although the main contributor to the development of parque do flamengo, reidy rarely gets mentioned alongside other contributors such as lotta macedo soares, and landscape architect burle marx.

furthermore the film shows that while reidy's concept of urban utopia was seen at times as idealistic, that in actuality there is a clear place for it in our modern cities - as it is becoming more evident every day.
