in 1954 the união de trabalhadores favelados (utf) (union of workers from the favelas) was founded.   later renamed union of workers from borel, this organization served as an example for other communities. It is a valuable tool for favela residents seeking and maintaining  employment.

in 2010 this favela borel was pacified by the upp, allowing for other city programs to enter the neighborhood and starting an accelerated improvement program, spanning from urbanization through infrastructural development, to integration via education and professional training of residents.
