tavares bastos is a very small favela located in catete, in the zona sul of rio - this community is a particularly quiet and safe one, mostly thanks to an office of the bope (batalhão de operações policiais especiais da polícia militar do estado do rio de janeiro) located right in the area.  

the bope is a special police force made famous by the movie tropa de elite, about the fight between rio's law enforcement and drug gangs.
