Beyond entertainment, these events offer a wealth of social and cultural activities, such as a graffiti workshop, and a photography contest called 'Fotografe essa ideia' (Picture This), in which residents submit photos of the races.

Projeto de Braços Abertos also runs professional training, offering young residents new experiences, skills and understanding in various sectors related to sport and event management.

One of the first competitions of its kind was held in Rocinha in 2012 - Over 1,000 people subscribed for the event, and took to the steep hills of the community and the rough terrain of the surrounding woods to compete in 5km and 10km races.
