Following the significant success of this event, Desafio da Paz has become a cherished part of the city's sporting calendar, hosting a variety of similar events in communities across Rio.

Underpinning the project is the desire to promote peace and the cultural and sporting fruits that a tranquil social environment offers.

Another 5km run was held on the 1st of January in 2012, and covered the Circuito da Gávea (Gávea Circuit) in rocinha - The tracks had previously been used for motor-sporting events but had since been abandoned for 70 years. The event brought together over a thousand runners from all across the city, including rocinha and other communities, injecting new cultural life into the region.
