The Desafio da Paz (Peace Challenge) are sporting events that take place in the obscured backstreets of Brazil's most illustrious favelas, hosted by the world-renowned NGO, Grupo Cultural Afroreggae (Afroreggae Cultural Group).

The first event of its kind was held in the complexo do alemão and Vila Cruzeiro in 2011, following the pacification process that had taken place months before - The 5km race covered an escape route that was used by traffickers during the occupation of the region.

It was attended by over 1,000 professional and amateur athletes, 300 of whom were residents of the host communities.
