the morro do salgueiro is also home to the caxambú do salgueiro, a cultural institution dedicated to the preservation of the jongo, a musical style precursor to the samba rich in mystical symbolisms.   

although still in need of further developments, the morro do salgueiro is now not only synonymous of carnival, but also one of the most rapidly transforming communities in rio.
