the crossing usually costs r$ 0,50, although it might vary with the length of the trip, in fact taxi boats are available for local tour and excursions.  

the boats are usually stationed in the small docks surrounding the small archipelago, in itanhangá or in the nearby barrinha,  a small 'unofficial' neighborhood part of barra.

this isolation makes gigóia a truly calm and crime-free location, amidst the very agitated and lively rio de janeiro.
