the 'ilha dos amores', or 'sweethearts island' in english, is a small strip of land rising from the waters of the são francisco cove right in front of the praia do preventório, in the southern edge of niterói.

this sole island surrounded by smaller rocks does imprint a charming quality to this peculiar area of the guanabara bay.

due to its location the waters in the cove are actually quite calm and inviting.
