the 'ilha da boa viagem' is located in the western edge of the homonym neighborhood of the niterói metropolitan area.

a rocky hill emerging from the water, it is located very close to the coast, so much so that it does have a small strip of sand connecting it to the mainland, although it does get covered during the high tide.

to boa viagem's east there's an arch-shaped beach of the same name which ends at the base of the cliff known as 'mirante da boa viagem', where the iconic 'museu de arte contemporânea de niterói' was built.
