at a glance

frevo appeared at the end of the 19th century in the city of recife, pernambucoas a result of increasing competition between marching blocks during carnaval parades and it is marked by a very accelerated rhythm - in the 1930's the first album of the genre, frevo pernambuco was recorded.

this was also during this decade that it started gaining form in the way it is organized - frevo de rua (street) is hosted mostly in street parades and is characterized by the absence of lyrics, while frevo de cancão (song) is to be sung along in bloco style using more traditional instruments.    arrow-back      arrow-forward
