jongo, also known as caxambu and tambú, is a music genre associated with a ceremony-type event that originated in southeastern brazil. considered the ancestor of samba and pagode, it was listed by the instituto do patrimônio histórico e artístico nacional - iphan (national historical and artistic heritage) in 2005 as the first immaterial good of the state. it is a unique combination of singing and dancing that is loved not only in brazil, but throughout south america.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
