at a glance

jongo has its roots in african rhythms and oral traditions brought to brazil by the bantus - one of the largest ethnic groups in sub saharan africa with strongholds in the areas of angola and congo from where most african slaves were brought to brazil.                            these oral traditions allowed african slaves to pass their culture to the generations in the new world influencing many areas of their culture and by default, brazilian and carioca heritage. the most notable of these influences were passed to music and dance (jongo and samba), as well as to culinary traditions. arrow-back      arrow-forward
