most of the innovations concerning the genre were developed in the northeastern brazilian state of bahía. 

being the biggest state in the region, and the closest to the cultural centers of são paulo and rio de janeiro, it was in the right position to bring the traditional sounds of the region into the new musical trends.  

many genres represent a mix of diverse influences, in the typical northeastern way - bringing modern sounds into the traditional ones, without actually escaping the scope of the classical term.

this variety and capacity to evolve and embrace new trends, without ever losing sight of its links to the african rhythms, kept the northeastern music popular and timeless.
