at a glance
the beach is set between the landmark morro do pontal de sernambetiba, a 120-meter high granite rock, and the praia da reserva ecológica, the beach across from the natural reserve of marapendi. throughout the year, many surf and body board tournaments take place here, along with recording for local tv programs by globo and rede record. during carnival celebrations, this beach is home to several blocos and parades that start on the sidewalk and end up with people drinking, singing, and celebrating in on the beach. at posto 11, near the pedra do pontal, the surf school recreio open surf is available for classes monday, wednesday, saturday, and sunday 9 am to 11 am, and 3 pm to 5 pm - the school can be contacted via phone at 21. 9166.1031, or 7864.7782.
