A number of academics and researchers have tried to better understand and develop more effective interventions to address the situation in Acari. The studies provided here offer a more comprehensive picture of the challenges faced by this neighborhood.

Presented by the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, the study Tecendo as redes do Programa Favela-Bairro em Acari,(Weaving together networks in the Favela-Bairro Program in Acari)by Leticia de Luna Freire, deals with an intervention in the locality of Acari that occurred between 2003 and 2004, in the context of a municipal program (Quarter-Slum Program) developed in the last ten years in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. The analysis uses the scientific anthropologist, Bruno Latour's, Actor Network-Theory. This theoretical and methodological apparatus is conceived of as a way of forming facts, taking into account nature and society, the human and the non-human.
