at a glance

Located the east coast of ilha do governador (governor island), part of the north zone of rio de janeiro, pitangueiras is an affluent neighborhood, dotted with mansions and impressive buildings, cushioned between Morro do Matoso, or 'Matoso Hill', and the waters of guanabara bay - it borders praia da bandeira in the north, cacuia in the west and ribeira and the environmental protection area of jequia in the south.

There is a lot of woodland in the region as well as a quaint beach called praia das pitangueiras, boasting long stretches of peaceful, golden sand, overhung by magnificent, exotic trees - There is a small kiosk situated by the pier on the beach, where one can sit and take in the serene beauty of the area which is strictly residential, with no commerce.

the small neighborhood is mainly residential and the beach of the same name has only very small strips of sand. The green area called Praça Sebastião Garcia, or 'Sebastião Garcia Square', is the social and cultural center of the neighborhood and to the west are the woodlands of Morro do Matoso. arrow-back      arrow-forward
