the neighborhood experienced another population boom in the 1930, following improved infrastructure and urbanization. this gradualy lead to the advance of several favela communities, which were subject to continuous growth. authorities were eventually forced to demolish this uncontrolled development, and create several residential areas on the outskirts of the neighborhood to take their place. uncertainty surrounds the origins of the neighborhoods name - it might have originated from a tupi word which means 'black wall', maybe in reference to the big pedra branca mountain, or maybe it was originated from the term 'banguê', word used by african slaves to refer to the vessel used to carry sugarcane. the current neighborhood is transverse by the brazil avenue, which supports the local economy active. alongside it there are several plazas, restaurants and other small businesses, examples being the passo fundo grill and the moinho globo, and the palazzo motel and the top kap motel. | anil | |||
