later the land would be converted and used for farming activities, especially of sugarcane, and the raising of bovine cattle. by the end of the 19th century the construction of the railroad and of several factories brought urbanization to the region, a trend which would continue for the next few decades. it was at this time that the region saw the first orange plantations, a product that would became intimately associated with the zona oeste for years to come. in mid 20th century avenida brasil was be built, solving most of the access problems to the zona oeste and thus further accelerating the development of the region. the coastal part of the zona oeste is home to very popular neighborhoods, like barra da tijuca and recreio dos bandeirantes - both known for their respective beaches and parks. | freguesia jpa | |||
