they started to sell their product to other bakeries and in 1963 formed the company bakery mandarino ltd. with a portuguese baker - biscoito globo are now famous on the beaches of rio de janeiro, and are the most widely sold by the vendors along the shores.

in march 2012, the city of rio de janeiro decreed that  the orange vendors offering mate, lemonade and biscoito were part of the city's cultural heritage.

the biscuits are made from primarily cassava flour, water, milk and oil - once the dough starts to heat in the oven, the water begins to evaporate and the dough expands, and that is what gives them their airy texture.    arrow-back      arrow-forward
