The book São Sebastião of Rio de Janeiro, the making of a city (São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro: A Formação de Uma Cidade) is a detailed retelling of the story of Rio de Janeiro, from its founding in 1565 to its ascent, explaining in depth how Rio came to be one of the most notable cities in the world.

Prefaced with a brief introduction by urban architect Carlos Fernando Andrade, the text was written by journalist Carlos Haag and is supported by 205 contemporary photographs taken by Globo photographer Ivo Gonzalez.
