Near the impressive MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art), the equally impressive Museu do Ingá deserves to be highlighted in any cultural tour of Niterói.  Boasting an impressive collection of artworks and documents, the building houses the memory of the country through thousands of items ranging from artwork to private documents.  

Located within the Ingá district, The building home to the Ingá museum, has its origins in a humble home, erected by the medic and politician José Martins Rocha.

Before becoming the museum in its current form, the building went through a variety of owners and as many different uses, including a complete remodeling and purchase for use as office of the state governor.
