rocinha is very easy to reach by public transportation.  there are 4 bus lines serving the area, plus a number of minivans that run along the beach sides in copacabana and ipanema .  the top can only be reached via moto taxi - motorcycles are the main transport inside the favela.

despite this ease of access, we highly recommend visitors to only access the neighborhood accompanied by a guide and to read up on our safety tips.

rocinha has received plenty of international attention. many celebrities have visited the bairro, including former russian president mikhail gorbachev during the e arth summit of 1992, actor c hristopher lambert, and actor ashton kutcher.   in 2008, the hollywood blockbuster the incredible hulk  featured footage shot in rocinha.
